I’ve been working as a performer for over twenty years and in that time I’ve learned a thing or two about the creative process of storytelling on screen and on stage. The way a set runs is in my bones, the way an actor thinks and feels is in my blood.

When it comes to intimacy in the work, I’ve experienced firsthand the awkwardness of ‘diving right in’ without so much as a conversation prior. I’ve been the only person on a set with queer lived experience - while shooting queer intimate scenes. And I’ve witnessed untold amounts of sexism, homophobia and coercion at work.

By facilitating conversations to aid the storytelling, by encouraging courageous vulnerability in performers and by above all keeping your cast and crew safe, I believe that having an intimacy coordinator involved can fundamentally change your creative process for the better.
